Veliyam is a village in Kerala, India. It is situated near Kottarakara in the Kollam district of Kerala. A. Sreedhara Menon briefly narrates the historical importance of this place in his book Kerala History.
Agriculture
From the early-1970s to 2005 majority of the people were farmers. Paddy and Coconut were the major crops here. Later farmers chose rubber plantations, aiming for the profit which can be earned within a limited time period.

Politics
Veliyam is famous for the Nationalised Political Parties in India including Communist Party and Congress. Veliyam gave birth to many political leaders including Veliyam Damodaran, Veliyam Bhargavan, etc. They laid the foundation for communism in this region.

Veliyam Bhargavan is a leading politician who was born and brought up in Veliyam Padinjatinkara.
