Apertura 2016 Liga MX championship stage
The Apertura 2016 Liga MX championship stage commonly known as liguilla (mini league) is being played from November 23 to December 11, 2016 or December 25 if América reaches the final due to their participation in the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup. A total of eight teams are competing in the championship stage to decide the champions of the Apertura 2016 Liga MX season. Both finalists qualify to the 2017–18 CONCACAF Champions League.

1) Points; 2) Goal difference; 3) Number of goals scored; 4) Head-to-head results between tied teams; 5) Number of goals scored away; 6) Highest relegation coefficient; 7) Fair Play points
(C) = Champion; (R) = Relegated; (P) = Promoted; (E) = Eliminated; (O) = Play-off winner; (A) = Advances to a further round.
Only applicable when the season is not finished:
(Q) = Qualified to the phase of tournament indicated; (TQ) = Qualified to tournament, but not yet to the particular phase indicated; (RQ) = Qualified to the relegation tournament indicated; (DQ) = Disqualified from tournament.
Format
- Teams are re-seeded each round.
- Team with more goals on aggregate after two matches advances.
- Away goals rule is applied in the quarterfinals and semifinals, but not the final.
- In the quarterfinals and semifinals, if the two teams are tied on aggregate and away goals, the higher seeded team advances.
- In the final, if the two teams are tied after both legs, the match goes to extra time and, if necessary, a shoot-out.
- Both finalists qualify to the 2017–18 CONCACAF Champions League (in Pot 3).
