The Bahraini opposition refers to a group of political groups who are opposed to the government or the Al Khalifa regime altogether. Currently, the Bahraini opposition can be divided into the officially registered political parties, who demand reforms to the current political system, and the unauthorized opposition groups who seek the removal of the Al Khalifa regime. Most of the opposition is comprised from the Shia population of Bahrain.[1]
The alliance of registered opposition parties consists of:
- Al Wefaq National Islamic Society
- National Democratic Action Society (Wa'ad)
- Progressive Democratic Tribune
- Islamic Action Society (Amal) - recently banned by the government
- Al Wahdawi
- Al Ekha
- Nationalist Democratic Assembly
The unlicensed opposition consists of:
- Haq Movement
- February 14 Youth Coalition
- Al Wafa
- Bahrain Freedom Movement
- National Liberation Front – Bahrain
- Hezbollah Al-Hejaz
Since the uprising, all opposition parties have boycotted parliamentary elections and have continued a street protest movement to demand reforms.
