Elmore State Park is a state park located in Elmore, Vermont, United States. The history of the park began in 1934, when the town of Elmore and several of its residents gave the state of Vermont a gift of 30 acres (12 ha). This occurred during the Great Depression, and the state set the Civilian Conservation Corps to work transforming the gift of land into a park. Originally, the park consisted of only a beach and picnic shelter. Since that time, however, the park's area has grown to 755 acres (306 ha), and the park is helped staffed by the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps.[2]
Located along Vermont Route 12, Elmore State Park features a campground added in 1963. The campground facilities include 45 tent/RV sites and 15 lean-tos, two restrooms with hot showers, and a sanitary dump station.[3]
The day-use area features a sandy beach located on 291-acre Lake Elmore, with the CCC-built beach house with a community room, a concession stand and cafe, restrooms and boat rentals.[3]
The park has easy access to hiking trails on Elmore Mountain and its fire tower.[4][5]
On April 29, 2002, Elmore State Park was placed on the National Register of Historic Places due to its creation by the CCC.
The state park is relatively close to the Stowe Recreation Path, the Trapp Family Lodge, and the Ben and Jerry's base of operations in Waterbury, Vermont.
