Free Bleeding Movement
The Free Bleeding Movement is a menstruation movement focusing on a woman's right to menstruate openly and without shame.
History
The movement started in the 1970s as a reaction to toxic shock syndrome.[1] It regained popularity in 2014 as a result of a 4chan prank.[2] One woman, Kiran Gandhi, the daughter of Meera Gandhi,[3] ran in the London Marathon, while free bleeding.[4] The movement focuses on a woman's own comfort.[5] The movement has also led to free products for woman in school bathrooms.[6]
Products
Some products include free bleeding panties. These products have been the a result of the free bleeding movement, and have received media attention.[7] These products are in response to the use of tampons.[8]
