Heaton Chapel railway station serves the Heaton Chapel and Heaton Moor districts of Stockport, in Greater Manchester.
The station is 4½ miles (7 km) south of Manchester Piccadilly towards Stockport
Opened as Heaton Chapel & Heaton Moor, the station was renamed Heaton Chapel on 6 May 1974.[1]
The station is covered by a Ditra Systems Public Address System (PA), voiced by Phil Sayer.
Service
Five trains per hour go towards Manchester Piccadilly northbound. These services come from Crewe, Chester, Hazel Grove, Stoke-on-Trent and Alderley Edge (hourly from each). One service now runs through to Preston and Blackpool North since the December 2015 timetable change.[2]
There are also five trains each hour from Piccadilly to one of Alderley Edge, Buxton, Stoke, Crewe or Hazel Grove. There are additional Crewe & Buxton services in the evening peak, plus two services to Chinley via Hazel Grove.
During the evening and on Sundays, there are two trains per hour to Manchester and hourly trains to Crewe (Alderley Edge on Sundays) and Buxton.
In early May 2016 the roof collapsed onto the stairs of the Manchester-bound platform.[3] This resulted in the stairs being closed on both platforms leaving access only via long ramps to the platforms. As of end September 2016 no work to replace the collapsed roof has been done.
