Urun Islampur (or Islampur for short) is a city and a municipal council in Sangli district in the Indian state of Maharashtra.
Demographics
As of 2001 India census,[2] Islampur had a population of 58830 . Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Islampur has an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 69%. In Islampur, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.

The city is located just 3 km east of the Pune-Banglore National Highway Number 4 (NH 4).One can have easy access to three major cities, viz. Sangli, Karad and Kolhapur from Islampur since they are nearly the same distances. The Taluka place is Walwa, which is 10 km from Islampur but all the Judicial, Panchayat, and Tehsil related procedures are carried out in Islampur. Tourist places in the vicinity of Islampur include Chandoli National Park, Sagareshwar Abhayaranya, Narsinhpur, etc.
Industries
The city has major MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Center) area . The major companies include the Rajarambapu Group of Textile Industries & Deendayal Cooperative Spinning Mill. The other major companies are Rajarambapu Doodh Sangh, Rajarambapu Solvex, Rajaram Sugar Factory,Rajarambapu Institute of Gems and Jewelry, Hutatma sugar, Sarvodaya sugar, etc. accompanied by many small scale enterprises.

The town has few educational facilities, with numerous schools like Islampur High School, Adarsh Balak Mandir High School,Vidyamandir High School, Modern English School, Javdekar School,Sadguru Ashram Shala etc. and various junior colleges like Islampur High School and Junior College of Science, KBP College, Vidyamandir High school and Junior College. In addition, it harbors few colleges providing higher education in Management, Engineering, Pharmacy, Medicine,D.Ed,B.Ed, commerce.
