Pasir Ris MRT Station (EW1) is the eastern terminal station of the Mass Rapid Transit East West Line in Pasir Ris, Singapore.
Modifications
Pasir Ris MRT Station was one of the many above ground stations built in the past with no platform screen doors to prevent commuters from falling off the platform and onto the train tracks. However, on 13 August 2009, Pasir Ris MRT Station became the first above ground MRT Station in Singapore to begin installing half height platform screen doors.[1] On 1 November 2009, the platform screen doors were fully completed and started operations.[2]
Pasir Ris was the first eastern terminus station of the East West Line, installed with Rite Hite Revolution High Volume, Low Speed (HVLS) fans and have been operating since 9 July 2012 together with Simei.
Incidents
On 22 March 2016, 2 SMRT maintenance trainees were killed after being run over by a terminating C151 train reportedly travelling at about 60 km/h at around 11:10am. They were part of a group of 15 personnel tasked to investigate a possible signalling system fault near the tracks of Pasir Ris Station. The incident took place 150m away from the station. This led to a 2.5 hour train service disruption between 11:10am to 1:56pm from Pasir Ris and Tanah Merah, and had affected at least 10,000 commuters.[3][4]
