Sikanderpur is a town and a nagar panchayat in Ballia district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It was founded and later named by Sikander Lodi of Lodi dynasty. In past it was the epicenter of perfume trade. As of 2001 India census,[1] Sikanderpur had a population of 21,790. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Sikanderpur has an average literacy rate of 58%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 65%, and female literacy is 49%. In Sikanderpur, 18% of the population is under 6 years of age. It is surrounded by Ghaghra river from north.

Sikanderpur is famous for perfumes like Gulab Jal, Keora Jal, Jasmine oil, Rose oil and Attar. Several type of flowers are cultivated there.

There in Sikanderpur, the visiting place is Kila Ka Pokhra, Jama Masjid, Maa Jalpa-Kalpa Mandir, Karbala and more places. There is a sample of Hindu-Muslim unity as there is Saraswati Shishu Mandir (a RSS School) and Darul Uloom madarsa situated nearly. One more thing is that the famous Jama Masjid is situated beside Sangh (sanghat) Mandir. There is 9 mohallas as following: Milki, Baddha, Domanpura, Gandhi Muhalla ,, Chandani Chowk, Mudiyapur, Mainapur and Pandeytola.

The town area of Sikanderpur is titled 'Adarsh Nagar Panchayat' because of its cleanliness and good basic facilities.

There is good facility for shopping, school, hospital/medical etc. It is well connected by Road from two nearest Railway Station (Ballia and Belthara Road) but worse condition of roads is a big threat to local passengers. It is 35–38 km from Ballia railway station and approximate 25–30 km from Belthara Road Railway station.

Politics

Sikanderpur has a strong Samajwadi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party base. The town actively participated in jana-aandolan led by JP Narayan during emergency. Mohammed Ziauddin Rizvi, a prominent Samajwadi leader, is current Member of Legislative Assembly from Sikanderpur with designation of Cabinet Minister Pashupaalan-Animal Husbandry in U.P Government. Sikanderpur comes in Salempur constituency and Ravindra Kushawaha is the MP (BJP).

Geography

Sikanderpur is surrounded by River Ghaghra from north and mostly plains in other directions. Climatic conditions are usually harsh as temperature varies from 45 °C in summer to 7 °C in winters.
