Dehu Road is a cantonment town in Pune district in the state of Maharashtra, India, and lies 27 km northwest of Pune Station along the NH4 Old Pune-Mumbai Highway which connects it to Pune city proper.
Geography
Dehu Road lies at an altitude of over 600 metres (2,000 ft), between two south-eastwardly flowing tributaries of the Bhima river, the Indrayani river to the north and the Pavana river to the south. Due to the elevation, the climate is pleasant.[1]
It is surrounded by small towns including Dehuroad Marketyard, Vikas Nagar, Mamurdi, Ravet, Adarsh Nagar, Bapdev Nagar, Chincholi, Indrani Darshan, Kiwale, Sankalp Nagar, Sai Nagar, Gahunje, Barlota Nagar, Dutt Nagar, Ashok Nagar, Alkapuri, Ordnance Factory Staff Quarters, KV School Quarters, Garden City, Gandhi Nagar, Mehta Park, Sarvata Nagar, Baapdev Nagar, Thomas Colony, Shitla Nagar,Sankalp Nagari, Uttam Nagar, Srinagar, Mountbatan(MB) Camp, Kinhai, Zendemala, Siddharth Nagar, Shelarwadi, etc. Recent development in the Vikas Nagar area has made it one of the densest and fastest developing areas of the town. A new township is under construction at Ravet.[2]
Economy
As Dehu Road is a cantonment town, offices of Central Government departments, especially Military and Defence, are located here.[3] Dehu Road is also very close to IT parks such as Pune Hinjawadi, Talawade as well as ICC Trade Tower, and is 8 km from the Talegaon industrial zone where major manufacturing industries including Ordnance Factory Dehu Road of the Ordnance Factories Board which manufactures products for the Indian Armed Forces. Volkswagen, General Motors, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, JCB, Tetrapack, INA Bearings, etc. are located.
Government and politics
Major area fall under Dehuroad Cantonment Board and currently Lalit Balghare of BJP is the vice president with majority of 4 seat of 7. The area is administered by all the three civil administrator namely Cantonment, Municipal Corporation and Gram Panchayt. The area is administered by the Dehu Road Cantonment (Dehu Road Market, Indrayni Darshan, Thomas Colony, Shitla Nagar) and the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (Vikas Nagar, Kiwale, Sai Nagar) and rest of the area falls under Gram Panchayt.
Transport
The newly constructed Mumbai Pune Expressway ends at its junction with the Katraj-Dehu Road Bypass Road, close to the town of Dehu Road. The Katraj-Dehu Road Bypass diverts traffic from Mumbai to Bangalore on National Highway 4 (NH 4) out of Pune from this town of Dehu Road to Katraj and the New Katraj Tunnel. By road, Dehu Road is almost equidistant from Pune and Lonavala, and also from Chakan and Katraj. Dehu Road can be reached from Pune by Suburban rail[4][5][6] or bus.

Dehu road station was built to provide access to Dehu village and the Dehu Road cantonment. The station has 4 platforms and 6 lines with a connecting footbridge. The Mumbai CST - Kolhapur Sahyadri Express, Mumbai CST - Bijapur Passenger, Mumbai CST - Pandharpur Passenger, Mumbai CST - Shirdi Passenger and Pune Junction - Karjat Shuttle halt over here. This station is a halt for all the Suburban trains of Pune.[7]
Demographics
As a cantonment town, the population in Dehu Road is very diverse with people from various states of India (mostly South Indian States) having settled here. At the 2011 Census of India,[8] Dehu Road had a population of 48,961. Males constituted 53% of the population and females 47%. Dehu Road had an average literacy rate of 90.96% , higher than the national average of 74.04: male literacy was 94.80% and female literacy was 86.63%, and 11.64% of the population was under 6 years of age.[9]
Real Estate
Several new projects have come up in the vicinity of Dehu road. Some of these popular projects are Sonigara Pearl, Celestial City, Shagun, Indra Prabha. Dehu road is turning out to be a preferred location for property purchase due to its vicinity to Hinjewadi, Talegaon, Pimpri Chinchwad and Chakan Industrial areas. Also Dehu road is very close to the Mumbai Pune expressway. Property rates of Dehu Road are expected to skyrocket in the coming years due to its proximity to expressway and Mumbai Pune NH 4, MCA International cricket stadium, Lonavala, Talegaon Chakan and Pune. Once the Nigdi Dehu road four laning is completed Dehu Road to Pune city driving time will be only 30 minutes. Dehu Road is one of the best locations in Pune to live because of greenery around it and proximity to Pune, Lonavala and Chakan.
Religious places and places of worship
Some of the attractions around the town are Dehu Road Bazaar, Murugan Temple, the Ayyappa temple on Sasta Hills the biggest Ayyappa temple in Maharashtra and Maruti Mandir which was established by Saint/Sant Ramdas. There are 3 Masjid and one Idgah and Idgah Masjid, of which Jama Masjid is the largest and oldest. There are also 3 churches, of which Church Mary & Emmanuel Assemblies of God Church is the oldest. There are 3 gurudwaras in Dehu Road. Jee Ayanu Gurudwara near the Market area, Indrayani Darshan on the Old Mumbai-Pune Highway and Garden City Gurudwara in Garden City. Also vaishya samaj mandir, jain mandir, shani mandir situated in main market. There is also a Buddhist Vihar situated near the place. The idol in the vihar is kept by DR Babasaheb Ambedkar.
Durga Tekdi (a hill viewpoint and picnic spot) is located 3 km to the southeast of Dehu Road, and the Appu Ghar amusement park is nearby.[10]
Education
Dehu Road has many schools with one of the oldest and most prominent English medium schools being St. Jude High School, earlier known as the Garrison High School. Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1, Dehu Road, one of the oldest KVs in India, is situated here. Shri Shivaji Vidayala, also the oldest Marathi (state-level language) Medium School. Samson Memorial Republic School(Eng Medium) is the oldest school in the region it was established in the year 1949 by Rev K.K.Samson and by Sara Violet Samson, Republic school offers education to the weaker section of the society. It also has an Army Public School Dehu Road near Ashok Nagar that comes under the army COD region. These schools have students from 10–15 small towns in the vicinity of Dehu Road.
Sports
A new international-standard cricket stadium called Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium at Dehu Road in Gahunje has already hosted several IPL matches.[11] Construction of this stadium has resulted in significant surge in real estate prices in Dehu Road.
