Nagorno-Karabakh is a landlocked region in the South Caucasus. Although regarded by the United Nations as a part of Azerbaijan, it currently claims to be a republic and is supported by Armenia.
Many Azerbaijani musicians trace their origins to this region. Shusha, a small city in the western region of Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, has long been considered one of the music centers of Azerbaijan.
Amongst the musicians that can trace their origins or families from Nagorno-Karabakh are Uzeyir Hajibeyov (the founder of classical music of Azerbaijan), the Armenian singer André, Bulbul and Polad Bülbüloğlu.
