Lakhisarai district is one of the thirty-eight districts of Bihar state, India, and Lakhisarai town is the administrative headquarters of this district. Lakhisarai district is a part of Munger Division. The district occupies an area of 1228 km2. The district has a population of 8,01,173 (2001 census).

History

On July 3, 1994 this district was carved out from Munger district, which comprised the erstwhile Lakhisarai sub-division of the undivided district.

Geography

Lakhisarai district occupies an area of 1,228 square kilometres (474 sq mi),[1] comparatively equivalent to Papua New Guinea's New Hanover Island.[2]

Economy

In 2006 the Ministry of Panchayati Raj named Lakhisarai one of the country's 250 districts (out of a total of 640).[3] It is one of the 36 districts in Bihar currently receiving funds from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme (BRGF).[3]

Divisions

The district consists only one sub-division Lakhisarai, which is divided into six developmental blocks, namely, Lakhisarai, Surya Garha, Barahia, Halsi, Piparia and Ramgarh Chowk. The district headquarters Lakhisarai is a city with mixed population, the majority being the upper-caste (Bhumihaar-Brahmins) people. Still under the process of development, the city has one newly constructed PCC road and a bypass under construction. The Law and Order as well as development process is taking place after Nitish Kumar Govt came into Power. Also, Piribazar, Chanan police stations are naxal-prone due to their geographical layout. The city well known for its sindur (vermilion) production.

Religion

Lakhisarai is also famous for Ashokdham temple, Bhagvati sthan temple at Abhaipur, Abhaynath temple at the hills beside Abhaipur Village, Maharani temple at Barahiya, Baba Govind temple at Mano-Rampur and for Shringirishi mountains and Surya Mandir at Pokhrama village in Alinagar Panchyat. This area is to be developed for Gautam Budha visits and related relics.

Industrial background

there are various fertilizer and pesticide factories in the district . one of them being BIHAR MINERAL INDUSTRIES in lakhisarai mainland . The market of fabrics is also flourihing in the district with lots of old and new shops working very well beyond estimate .,there is many factories like sindur, sweet n play a good role in increasing GDP of India

Village

Babhangawan village is located in Lakhisarai Tehsil of Lakhisarai district in Bihar, India. It is situated 13 km away from Lakhisarai, which is both district & sub-district headquarter of Babhanganwan village. The total geographical area of village is 1465 hectares.[4] Babhanganwan has a total population of 3,737 peoples. There are about 586 houses in Babhanganwan village. Dariyapur is one of the main villages in Lakhisarai district. It is present in block Lakhisarai. The total population of the village is 953. The literacy rate is 43.72%. The female literacy rate is 28.53%. The male literacy rate is 59.05%.[4]

Alinagar = (Revenue Name Alinagar): -- (about 10 km east of District HQ), is thickly populated with a population of about 4000.[4] The village mainly depends on agriculture. The education percentage is 64% and female education about 40%. The nearest railway station is Kajra for vehicular traffic and UREN for pedestrians only. The village is connected NH80 by newly made under PMGSY. Earlier Alinagar had its own Gram Panchayat, now it is rescheduled in Alinagar Panchyat. Branch Post Office (under Kajra, PIN 811 309), one Utkramit High School is provided. Agricultural irrigation system is not well. Rain-water harvesting systems in each house are urgently needed.

Nandnama is one of the villages in Lakhisarai District in Bihar State. It is 11.4 km from its district main city Lakhisarai. It is 117 km from its state main city Patna.

Abhaipur = The biggest village of the district, distributed in several Tolas, Nmely Kasba, Mahan and Masudan.Having a very good range of Hills, Mango gardens, Road, Railways, farms and ending at the bank of Ganga. Having the facilities of : Post Office Govt.Hospital Police Station ( Piri Bazar) Abhaipur High School and two Middle schools up to 8th standard including play grounds. Gram-Panchayat and Rashan distribution Centre and Gas Agency three larger ponds and agricultural canals Agriculture Centre(krishi kendra) Many Banks including branch of SBI with ATM facilities Towers of various networks including BSNL, Airtel, Idea, Vodafone, Tata Dokomo etc. Market of about more than 200 shops for buying all usual goods including petrol pumps. Village deserves, Municipal Community and Governmental College which is extremely needed for the proper sanitation and supply and higher education purposes respectively.

According to the 2011 census Lakhisarai district has a population of 1,000,717,[5] roughly equal to the nation of Fiji[6] or the US state of Montana.[7] This gives it a ranking of 445th in India (out of a total of 640).[5] The district has a population density of 815 inhabitants per square kilometre (2,110/sq mi) .[5] Its population growth rate over the decade 2001-2011 was 24.74%.[5] Lakhisarai has a sex ratio of 900 females for every 1000 males,[5] and a literacy rate of 64.95%.[5]

Languages

Languages used in the district include Angika, an Indo-Aryan language written in the Devanagari script and spoken by at least 725,000 people in the Angika Region.[8]
