Raymond Anthony Black (born June 26, 1990) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the San Francisco Giants.

Black had Tommy John surgery during his senior year in high school.[1][2] He recovered from the surgery and played college baseball at the University of Pittsburgh for the Panthers from 2009 to 2011. He appeared in 30 games with Pittsburgh, finishing with a 10.95 earned run average (ERA) with 41 strikeouts and 41 walks in 37 innings.

Despite his college numbers, Black was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the seventh round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft.[3] He signed with the Giants rather than return to Pittsburgh.[4] Before the 2012 season, Black suffered a torn labrum in his right shoulder.[5] The injury would cause him to miss the next two seasons while he recovered.[6] Black finally made his professional debut in 2014 with the Augusta GreenJackets. In August he was promoted to the San Jose Giants.[7] He finished the year with a 3.57 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 35 13 innings. After the season, the Giants assigned him to the Scottsdale Scorpions of the Arizona Fall League.

Wynton Bernard

Wynton Allen Bernard (born September 24, 1990) is an American professional baseball center fielder in the San Francisco Giants organization.

Bernard was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 35th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft out of Niagara University.[8] Before the 2014 season, he signed a minor league deal with the Detroit Tigers.[9] Playing for the West Michigan Whitecaps in 2014, he broke the teams single season hit record with 164.[10] He was added to the Tigers 40-man roster on October 31, 2014. Bernard was designated for assignment on June 18, 2016.[11] He is currently a free agent as he declared free agency following a year spent between the Toledo Mud Hens and Erie SeaWolves, the latter of which he had more success with, hitting .308 with six home runs and 22 RBIs in 58 games.

Bernard became a free agent at the end of the 2016 season and signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants organization on November 22, 2016.[12]

His brother, Walter Bernard, played in the National Football League. Bernard and his family appeared in the TV game show Family Feud in 2011.[13]

Daniel Carbonell

Daniel Carbonell Arredondo is a Cuban professional baseball outfielder in the San Francisco Giants organization.

Carbonell played for Camagüey in the Cuban National Series for four years.[14] In October 2013, Carbonell and Orlando Pérez defected from Cuba.[15]

Carbonell signed a four-year, $1.4 million major league contract with the San Francisco Giants on June 16, 2014.[16][17] He played in ten games for the Arizona Giants of the Rookie-level Arizona League, before receiving a promotion to the San Jose Giants of the Class A-Advanced California League.[18]

Sam Coonrod

Samuel T. Coonrod (born September 22, 1992) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the San Francisco Giants organization.

Coonrod played college baseball at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.[19] He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the fifth round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft.[20][21] He made his professional debut that year with the Arizona League Giants. Coonrod played for the Augusta GreenJackets in 2015.[22][23]

Steven Duggar

Steven Michael Duggar (born November 4, 1993) is an American professional baseball outfielder in the San Francisco Giants organization.

Duggar attended James F. Byrnes High School in Duncan, South Carolina and played college baseball at Clemson University.[24][25] After his junior year, he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the sixth round of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft.[26]

Duggar made his professional debut with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. He started 2016 with the San Jose Giants and was promoted to the Richmond Flying Squirrels in June.

Aramis Garcia

Aramis Michael Garcia (born January 12, 1993) is an American professional baseball catcher for the San Francisco Giants organization.

Garcia attended Pembroke Pines Charter High School in Pembroke Pines, Florida. The St. Louis Cardinals selected him in the 20th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft, but he did not sign a contract with them.[27] He enrolled at Florida International University (FIU) to play college baseball for the FIU Panthers.[28] In 2014, Garcia was named the Conference USA Baseball Player of the Year[29] and a semifinalist for the Johnny Bench Award.[30]

The San Francisco Giants selected Garcia in the second round, with the 52nd overall selection, of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft. The Giants signed Garcia to a contract with a $1.1 million signing bonus.[27][31] He began the 2015 season with the Augusta GreenJackets of the Class A South Atlantic League, where he was named a midseason All-Star.[32][33] He received a midseason promotion to the San Jose Giants of the Class A-Advanced California League, and an invitation to spring training in 2016 as a non-roster player.[34][35]

Ian Gardeck

Ian James Gardeck (born November 21, 1990) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the San Francisco Giants organization.

Gardeck graduated from Crystal Lake South High School in Crystal Lake, Illinois.[36] He began his college baseball career at the University of Dayton, before transferring to Angelina College for his sophomore year.[37] The Chicago White Sox selected Gardeck in the eighth round, with the 261st overall selection, of the 2011 MLB draft, but Gardeck instead transferred to the University of Alabama to continue his college career. The San Francisco Giants selected him in the 16th round of the 2012 MLB draft,[38] and he signed with the Giants.

After the 2015 season, the Giants added Gardeck to their 40-man roster.[39]

Miguel Gómez

Miguel Gómez (born December 17, 1992) is a Dominican professional baseball infielder in the San Francisco Giants organization.

Gómez signed with the San Francisco Giants as an international free agent in September 2011. The Giants added him to their 40-man roster after the 2016 season.[40]

Joan Gregorio (born January 12, 1992) is a professional baseball pitcher for the San Francisco Giants.

The Giants added Gregorio to their 40-man roster on November 20, 2014.

Chase Johnson

Chase Lucas Johnson (born January 9, 1992) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the San Francisco Giants organization.

Johnson was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 26th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft out of Fallbrook Union High School in Fallbrook, California.[41] He did not sign with the Rangers and played college baseball at California Polytechnic State University. He was then drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the third round of the 2013 MLB draft.[42] He signed with the Giants and made his professional debut with the Arizona League Giants and later promoted to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. Johnson spent 2014 with the Augusta GreenJackets.[43] He started 2015 with the San Jose Giants and was promoted to the Richmond Flying Squirrels.[44] The Giants added him to their 40-man roster after the 2016 season.[40]

Reyes Moronta

Reyes Moronta (born January 6, 1993) is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher in the San Francisco Giants organization.

Moronta signed with the San Francisco Giants as an international free agent in September 2010. He made his professional debut in 2011 with the Dominican Summer League Giants. He played for the Arizona League Giants in 2012, Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in 2013, Arizona League Giants in 2014, Augusta GreenJackets in 2015 and San Jose Giants in 2016. The Giants added him to their 40-man roster after the 2016 season.[40]

Phil McCormick

Philip David McCormick (born September 7, 1988) is a professional baseball pitcher currently with the Richmond Flying Squirrels in the San Francisco Giants minor league system.

He was born in Wildwood, Missouri and attended Lafayette High School in Wildwood before going University of Missouri. He spent four seasons playing at Missouri, going 0-1 with a 8.10 ERA in four relief appearances his first season (2008), 1-1 with a 7.25 ERA in 30 games (two starts) his sophomore year, 6-1 with a 4.40 ERA in 36 relief appearances in 2010 (breaking the school record for appearances in a season)[45] and 1-1 with a 5.63 ERA in five games his last year. The Giants drafted him in the 31st round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft.[46]

In his first professional season, he went 1-1 with a 1.19 ERA in 23 games for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. He led all Northwest League pitchers with over 20 appearances in ERA and led the team in saves (6) and WHIP (min. 15 IP; 0.989). In 2012, he was 3-1 with a 3.48 mark in 61 games for the San Jose Giants, striking out 54 in 51 2/3 innings and leading the California League in games. In 2013, he was 4-5 with 3 saves and a 3.97 ERA in 58 games for the Richmond Flying Squirrels, again averaging more than a strikeout per innings. He was second in the Eastern League in appearances and first on the team. He led the league in holds. Entering 2014, he was listed among the Giants top prospects.[47][48] That year, he was 2-4 with a 3.74 ERA in 50 games for Richmond. He began 2015 back with Richmond.

Chris Shaw

Christopher James Shaw is an American professional baseball first baseman. He played college baseball at Boston College.[49][50] He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the first round of the 2015 MLB draft and was assigned to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, where he batted .287 with 12 home runs and 30 RBI's. In 2016, Shaw began the season with the San Jose Giants, and was later promoted to the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Shaw ended 2016 with a .267 batting average, 21 home runs, and 85 RBI's.[51]

Dan Slania

Daniel Alexander Slania (born May 24, 1992) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the San Francisco Giants organization.

Slania was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 42nd round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft out of Salpointe High School in Phoenix, Arizona. He did not sign with the Red Sox and attended the University of Notre Dame to play college baseball. He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the fifth round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft.[52]

Slania became a starting pitcher midway through the 2016 season after previously pitching in relief throughout his career and in college.[53] The Giants added him to their 40-man roster after the season.[40]

Austin Slater

Austin Thomas Slater (born December 13, 1992) is an American professional baseball outfielder in the San Francisco Giants organization.

Slater attended The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 44th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft. He did not sign and played college baseball at Stanford University. After his junior year, he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the eighth round of the 2014 MLB Draft.[54]

Slater made his professional debut with the Arizona League Giants and was promoted to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes after two games.[55] He was moved from outfield to second base in 2015.[56] He spent 2015 with the San Jose Giants and Richmond Flying Squirrels where he posted a .294 batting average with 3 home runs and 47 RBI's. After the season, the Giants assigned him to the Scottsdale Scorpions of the Arizona Fall League. Slater was moved back to the outfield in 2016 and started the year back with Richmond, and was later promoted to the Sacramento River Cats, where he posted a combined .305 batting average with 18 home runs and 67 RBI's.[57] Slater played for the Scottdale Scorpions after the season of the AZL again.
