Kobun Maru  Japan The cargo ship suffered a failure of her sea valve and was abandoned off the Japanese coast. All crew were rescued by another vessel.[2]

Florida  Italy The cargo ship foundered in the Atlantic Ocean 700 nautical miles (1,300 km) off the Virginia Capes, United States (38°05′N 60°12′W / 38.083°N 60.200°W / 38.083; -60.200). The crew were rescued by America ( United States).[30][31]

Ville de Liège  Belgium The passenger ferry ran aground in Dover Harbour, Kent and sank. All passengers and crew were rescued.[56] She was refloated on 20 February.[58]

Gull Lightship  United Kingdom The lightship was rammed and sunk in the English Channel off Deal, Kent by City of York ( United Kingdom) with the loss of one of her seven crew. Survivors were rescued by the motorboat Lady Beatty and transferred to the City of York.[94] Having been refloated, she was beached between Pegwell Bay and Deal on 6 July.[95] She was repaired and entered service as the Brake Lightship ( United Kingdom).[96]

She disobeyed orders to stop and was shelled and sunk by USCGC Dexter ( United States Coast Guard) with the loss of a crew member.[100]

Chieri  Italy The cargo ship foundered in the Bay of Biscay 80 nautical miles (150 km) off Ouessant, Finistère, France (approximately 47°N 6°W / 47°N 6°W / 47; -6) with th loss of 35 of her 41 crew. Survivors were rescued by the trawler Gascoyne ( France).[342][344]
Don  Norway The cargo ship was driven ashore at Aberavon, Glamorgan.[342] She was refloated on 17 December.[345]
Helene  Denmark The cargo ship was abandoned in the Bay of Biscay after her tow broke. She came ashore in the Raz de Sein, Finistère and was wrecked with the loss of a crew member.[241][342]
John Charlton  United Kingdom The cargo ship was driven ashore at Quayhaven, Dorset.[340]
Mogens Koch  Denmark The four-masted schooner was driven ashore at Cuckmere, East Sussex. Her crew were rescued.[340] She was refloated on 17 December.[345]
Ornais II  France The collier was driven ashore at Perranuthnoe, Cornwall, United Kingdom and wrecked. All crew survived.[342][346]
Radyr  United Kingdom The cargo ship foundered in the Bristol Channel off the coast of Devon with the loss of all 25 crew.[347][348]
Volumna  United Kingdom The cargo ship was abandoned in the Atlantic Ocean (51°16′N 27°43′W / 51.267°N 27.717°W / 51.267; -27.717) and sank. Her crew were rescued by Manchester Regiment ( United Kingdom).[349]
