Rampurhat I (community development block) (Bengali: রামপুরহাট I সমষ্টি উন্নয়ন ব্লক) is an administrative division in Rampurhat subdivision of Birbhum district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Rampurhat and Margram police stations serve this block. Headquarters of this block is at Rampurhat.[1][2]

Geography

Narayanpur, a constituent panchayat of Rampurhat I block, is located at 24°14′51″N 87°41′19″E / 24.2475°N 87.6885°E / 24.2475; 87.6885.

Rampurhat I community development block has an area of 178.81  km2.[2]

Gram panchayats of Rampurhat I block/panchayat samiti are: Ayas, Barshal, Bonhat, Dakhalbati, Kastogara, Kharun, Kusumaba, Mashra and Narayanpur.[3]

Demographics

At the 2001 census, Rampurhat I block had a total population of 159,148, of which 81,292 were males and 77,856 were females. Rampurhat I block registered a population growth of 18.48 per cent during the 1991-2001 decade. Decadal growth for Birbhum district was 17.88 per cent.[2]Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84 per cent.[4]

Scheduled castes at 51,312 formed around one-third the population. Scheduled tribes numbered 20,825.[5]

Literacy

At the 2001 census, Rampurhat I block had a total literacy of 61.92 per cent for the 6+ age group. While male literacy was 72.01 per cent female literacy was 51.34 per cent. Birbhum district had a total literacy of 61.48 per cent, male literacy being 70.89 per cent and female literacy being 51.55 per cent.[6]
