Suri II (community development block) (Bengali: সিউড়ি II সমষ্টি উন্নয়ন ব্লক) is an administrative division in Suri Sadar subdivision of Birbhum district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Suri and Panrui police stations serve this block. Headquarters of this block is at Purandarpur.[1][2]
Geography
Purandarpur is located at 23°51′19″N 87°34′31″E / 23.8551900°N 87.5753100°E.
Suri II community development block has an area of 64.39 km2.[2]
Gram panchayats
Gram panchayats of Suri II block/panchayat samiti are: Abinashpur, Bansanka, Domdoma, Kendua, Koma and Purandarpur.[3]
Demographics
As per 2001 census, Suri II block had a total population of 77,002, out of which 39,631 were males and 37,371 were females. Suri II block registered a population growth of 18.19 per cent during the 1991-2001 decade. Decadal growth for Birbhum district was 17.88 per cent.[2]Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84 per cent.[4]
Scheduled castes at 25,332 formed around one-third the population. Scheduled tribes numbered 10,472.[5]
Literacy
As per 2001 census, Suri II block had a total literacy of 63.85 per cent for the 6+ age group. While male literacy was 73.35 per cent female literacy was 53.74 per cent. Birbhum district had a total literacy of 61.48 per cent, male literacy being 70.89 per cent and female literacy being 51.55 per cent.[6]
