Kelambakkam is a rapidly growing suburb of Chennai in Tamil Nadu state in India. It is situated on the Old Mamallapuram Road (also known as the IT corridor/Rajiv Gandhi Salai). It is located just 5 km from Siruseri IT Park. It is another important junction which connects GST and ECR Road after Sholinganalur.[1]
Tourist attractions include Kovalam beach, the old church for St. Mary in Kovalam, Thiruvidanthai Nithya Kalyana Perumal temple and Tiruporur Murugan Temple.
Kelambakkam attracts office workers from nearby SIPCOT siruseri IT/BPO companies.
One of the most important health centers in the region is Chettinad Health City.[2] It houses a hospital and a nursing college called Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute (CHRI) under Chettinad University. The university attracts students not only from India but also other parts of Asia. Another prominent health care centre on the Vandalur Road is Praveena Hospital which provides outpatient services to people from areas nearby.
A famous Saibaba temple is nearby. Sri Siva Shankar Baba's Ashram called Sree Ramarajya is situated off the Vandalur Road in Kelambakkam. A residential area in Kelambakkam is Sathankuppam. Many nagars have been developed here, like Jothy Nagar, Jothy Nagar Welfare Land, Anna Nagar, Kanaga Parameshwaran Nagar, Balaji Nagar, Ajith nagar, Mogambigai Nagar, Susheela Nagar, Ganapathi nagar, Lakshmi Avenue, Krishna nagar, VIP Nagar, Sri Sai Vighar and Sri nagar, Srinivasa Nagar, and Rajeshwari Nagar. Kelambakkam has a fish market.

The Kelambakkam quarry is a trail for off-road enthusiasts from Chennai.
Many apartments like Purva Swanlake, Akshaya Today, Akshaya January, PBEL city, Vijay Shanthi (Lotus Pond) and villas like Humming Gardens, Vijaya Raja have come up in Kelambakkam.

Bus transport
Kelambakkam connects all important destinations in Chennai like Central Railway Station, CMBT Bus Terminus (Koyambedu), Broadway, T.Nagar and Tambaram through MTC bus services (available 24 hours).
Kelambakkam is an important junction connecting the ECR (East Coast Road) and the GST (Grand Southern Trunk) Road, from Kovalam to Vandaloor Zoo. It also connects Mamallapuram and Adyar. From Kelambakkam, locations connected include Thiruporur, Mamallapuram, Adyar, Vandalur Zoo, Tambaram, ,George Town, and Tidel Park. Kelambakkam has been a popular market for adjoining villages like Velichai and Pudupakkam. Today, Kelambakkam is better known than the neighbouring Thiruppor.
Road development
Due to huge development around this area, the Government of Tamil Nadu is planning a six-lane road from Siruseri IT Park to Mahabalipuram with Rs. 260 cr. sanctioned for OMR Phase II. This 26.8 km stretch, under the charge of the State Highways Department, will run from Siruseri to Poonjeri, where it will join the East Coast Road. Two new by-passes have been planned to avoid areas that are urbanised and have too many buildings. The road will run through 13 revenue villages, and nearly 200 acres of land are required to widen it. One by-pass, running to a length of 4.67 km, will come up in Padur and reach Thaiyyur-B village, by-passing Kelambakkam. Similarly, the other by-pass of 5.75 km will take off in Kalavakkam and join Vengaleri. It will by-pass Thiruporur and Thandalam.
